Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Christian Eriksen and Tottenham’s stance on signing the Dane in the mean time.

The former Spurs man’s Brentford contract is up on the finish of the month, and in current weeks there have been persistent and ongoing rumours concerning the midfielder doubtlessly returning to north London.

Tottenham have seemingly been the frontrunners for his signature for fairly a while now, with stories stating that the London membership have been ‘confident’ about signing the 30-year-old.

However, in accordance with Gold, Tottenham are actually distancing themselves from the thought of signing Eriksen.

What’s been stated?

Gold spoke about Eriksen.

“I think it’s a bit of a no-brainer, but from everything I’m hearing, and I’ve spoken to people on both sides of this deal, it all seems to be pointing in the same direction and Spurs seem to be cooling their interest in him,” Gold stated.

“From what I understand, the last time anyone from Spurs was in contact with his camp was two weeks ago, nothing since. The voices from Spurs are distancing themselves from any discussions about Eriksen whatsoever.”

Gold then concluded on Eriksen after discussing different choices for the midfielder.

“It will be interesting to see what happens with him, I’ve been so surprised, it’s a real unified voice within Spurs that are distancing themselves from him entirely, so something has clearly made them change their mind.”

Makes sense

As sensible as it might have been to see Eriksen again at Spurs, backing away from this transfer is sensible from a footballing standpoint.

Think about it, Tottenham are presently taking part in a 3-4-3, so there actually isn’t room for the Brentford midfielder on this crew in the mean time as Spurs want power in the midst of the park.

The signing of Yves Bissouma has left even much less room in that midfield, and whereas we don’t know the specifics, we’re positive that Eriksen would command an honest wage, and that cash may very well be used elsewhere.

Simply put, there are greater priorities for Spurs in the mean time.
